Where do you seek peace?
Freedom comes in many forms. And for the longest time I believed that freedom will come when I am happy, when I make the money I thought would be the ‘big fixer’ in my life and when I live life in North America.
But there I was a few years ago: the money came, the lifestyle came, the happiness came in waves of excitement… only to drop back down once the experience was over.
Disappointed is an understatement. I thought I failed myself. I thought I failed at life. Why was the happiness leaving as quickly as it came? Why didn’t the little luxuries last longer?
It wasn’t until recent years when I realized the thing I was looking for wasn’t happiness, but peace.
Peace…
Say it with me: Peeeeeace.
You probably have heard me saying ‘I get to live in the peace that makes no sense’.
Lately, it’s been my favorite thing to share, because 1. the peace I have been feeling since truly aligning with my purpose in life and my newly found Christian values cannot be really explained to those who haven’t felt it, and 2. I truly believe that when we leave space for curiosity, we get to invite more expansion into our life. That’s why I like to use it and bring an air of mystery, to get you thinking a little bit deeper.
So, where do YOU seek peace?
I looked for it in the most random places - new age communities, songs about personal power and independence, new hobbies, books, movies, people… you name it, I looked ‘everywhere’.
Everywhere, except the place where peace stems from: God.
As you may know, I talk a lot about God - mainly because I know who I was without Him and who I get to be now, WITH Him.
Peace is actually one piece of the Fruit of the Spirit mentioned in the Bible.
In Galatians 5:22-23 (if you want to do your own research) there is mention of 9 godly character traits offered by the Holy Spirit, which are: Love, Joy, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-Control and Peace.
I left peace at the end because of dramatic impact :D
Peace!
As we surrender to become children of God and surrender our need to worship ourselves, we receive among other powerful traits PEACE.
Just imagine with me for a moment: what would your life look like when you lived with more peace infused in your day to day life?
What would your relationships feel like when you showed up with more peace in your presence?
What could you do, be and have when you surrendered all that weight you’ve been carrying and received peace instead of it?
I know for me has been a massive change.
I changed how I see life, how I treat others, how I value myself and my quality of life, how I treat my body - especially as the temple of the Holy Spirit (we will leave this for another article :D ) - how I parent, how I love and allow love to find me, how I help and allow help to find me, how and who I am. Who I truly am.
The gift that keeps on giving is living in peace. Less reactivity, more presence.
Less defensiveness, more awareness.
Less fear, more faith.
Less seeking, more surrendering.
Less solitude, more belonging.
Belonging to Him who has created all that is, was and will ever be.
And that itself brings me so much peace and freedom. The kind of freedom that is truly free, not conditioned freedom. Not limiting freedom. Not ‘if you do this you get freedom.’ The freedom of belonging to the One who created you. So fun!
I leave you with this: what you seek is seeking you. If the things seeking you are not the things you wish to see more in your life, it’s time to start seeking something different.
What would that different thing be like for you?
Let me know in the comments below.
Until next time - Stay Salty & Bright!
